I got carried away with updating the previous post, that I forgot a new week has already started…
WhatsApp for iPhone/iPod Touch free, down from $0.99. Get this now if you haven’t already.
News on Gears of War: Exile, Halo HD, Call of Duty: Elite (plus trailer), Star Wars Kinect, Saints Row: The Third, L.A. Noire DLC, Aliens: Colonial Marines after the jump.
You can download the Cryptozoic Comics App (free) and download the first volume of WarCraft: Legends for free too. Get it if you’re a WarCraft fan. The quality isn’t that great though, so you can’t zoom in a lot before the image blurs. Not sure if it’s because I’m on a iPhone…
Halo HD was somewhat talked about previously so it isn’t anything new, although a new Gears of War title is pretty exciting. Although not so much if it’s a Kinect title, but oh well.
Imagine the rage and hate if you had to pay a fee for MW3 multiplayer… though it wouldn’t be possible anyway, unless they want to give Battlefield 3 a free leg-up. Hardcore fans would probably lap up a premium service though.
Nothing says “awesome” like swinging a lightsaber.
Sounds kinda like a buffed up Halo Waypoint for Call of Duty mixed with Facebook. The details there sound fitting for a free service (the standard stat tracking and stuff), I suppose they’ll be announcing more features for the premium service besides the DLC and competitions. Unfortunately it’ll only support games from Black Ops onwards, and most of my (and maybe yours too) playtime was in Modern Warfare 2. There’s also a Q&A which has more details such as the prizes (win Xboxes and… Jeeps!) and regionalisation. Or you can just watch the trailer below.
Saints Row: The Third Pre-E3 Interview (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
I enjoyed Saints Row 2 (didn’t get the first), definitely looking forward to this. Calling airstrikes, piloting VTOL jets, and customization — and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Coming this year, November 15. E3 trailer (CG-ed and pretty awesome) below:
L.A. Noire DLC spree begins today (PS3, Xbox 360)
First up, the 2 DLC (“The Naked City” and “A Slip of the Tongue”) which were available as pre-order bonuses will be released today, along with some of the in-game items (80 MSP) and “The Badge Pursuit Challenge” (160 MSP). The “Nicholson Electroplating” arson case will be out 3 weeks later on June 21, and the “Reefer Madness” vice case 2 months later on July 12. All cases will cost 320 MSP. I finished the DLC cases in around 1-3 hours each (Slip of the Tongue was shorter), so that’s about 160 MSP for 1 hour of gameplay. Apparently Rockstar has no plans for any further DLC, but they’ll obviously continue to release more if the sales are good. You can also buy the Rockstar pass for $10 and gain access to all the content. Would be pretty useless for those who already have the first 2 cases plus the Badge Challenge — which came with The Naked City, but I didn’t really notice it in-game — they would be paying $2 for 2 suits and 2 extra codes.
Aliens: Colonial Marines drops spring 2012 (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Being somewhat a fan of Aliens, I’m kinda looking forward to this, so hopefully it won’t suck. It probably won’t, since it’s Gearbox (Borderlands, Brothers in Arms [although I never did get around to playing those], various Half-Life add-ons and er, Duke Nukem Forever).
Mass Effect 3 adopting Kinect control? (Xbox 360)
Good news for Kinect fans I guess, but I it wouldn’t affect me either way to be honest…
Deus Ex: Human Revolution E3 2011 Trailer (PC, PS3, Xbox 360)
Loved the first Deus Ex, didn’t play the second (oh well) but definitely getting this. Doesn’t seem like it’ll be delayed, so I’ll be able to play it during my holidays. Releases August 23 2011.
An interesting read on video game trends, with insights from developers such as Clint Hocking (LucasArts; formerly at Ubisoft; Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2), David Cage (Quantic Dream; Indigo Prophecy, Heavy Rain), Cliff Bleszinski (Epic Games; Unreal and Gears of Wars series) and Brian Moriarty (LucasArts; Loom).
E3 2011: Saints Row: The Third First Look Preview (PC, PS3, Xbox 360) NEW
Besides the interview above, GameSpot has a preview up. The Saints Row series is back with more insanity, silliness and great fun. The game is set in a new city called Steelport, which you’re deported to after a bank heist goes south. Vehicle-wise there’s a manapult which lets you grab random civilians off the street and launch them like a
cata manapult. There’s also a VTOL jet which shoots missiles and apparently lasers too. Based on Giant Bomb’s preview there’s also a weapon called Apocafist which makes people explode when you hit them. Wowzers. Coming later this year on November 15.
